AEC-Weston JV, LLC (AEC-Weston) wins Federal Orphaned Well Program Support Services IDIQ for the Bureau of Land Management Construction and A&E National Operations Center, Denver Federal Center.
AEC-Weston will provide to BLM, Department of Agriculture’s U.S. Forest Service, and the DOI bureau agencies with nationwide environmental assessment services. Support includes NEPA compliance, soil surveys, well and site investigations, air quality monitoring, environmental testing, and reclamation, which may be needed to support the plugging and abandonment of orphaned well sites across the US and Alaska.
Weston Solutions, Inc. (Weston), as part of the AEC-Weston JV, will provide overall program management, field assessment teams, data analysis, site investigation and recommendations for further reclamation or remedial actions. We will also use remote sensing capabilities to locate well sites, which reduces the field effort at remote, environmentally sensitive sites, and locations with access concerns. If well sites are not visible to ground crews due to vegetative overgrowth, poor historical records, or site access challenges, Weston will potentially use aerial drone technology to conduct LiDAR, or electromagnetic aerial surveys to locate the legacy wells.
This new contract provides Weston the opportunity to expand its current orphaned well environmental assessment services in Arizona and Colorado across the US. Weston is positioned to play a key role in reducing methane emissions from these wells, which are contributing to the climate change crisis. Our team subcontractors include RJR, LLC (NEPA services); Drone Geosciences (drone surveys); and Sonoma Technologies (methane sampling).
Mark Bell, Weston’s Program Manager, noted that “Weston’s previous BLM and USFS experience, recent experience with state-level Orphaned Well programs, and knowledge of technical requirements associated with evaluating orphaned wells were key elements that helped Weston rank highly among the competition.”
