In a major boost for water treatment technology, Albuquerque-based Aqua Membranes has secured a significant round of funding to scale up production of its innovative reverse osmosis membranes. The investment, led by Burnt Island Ventures and backed by several climate-focused funds, will help the company meet surging demand for its Printed Spacer Technology.

Aqua Membranes' membranes are revolutionizing the performance of reverse osmosis systems, which are critical for desalination and water purification. By redesigning the spacer element, the company's technology optimizes output, extends element life, and reduces energy consumption. This translates to lower operating costs and helps users meet sustainability goals.

The company's success has been swift, with revenues set to quadruple this year and further growth anticipated in 2025. The new funding will be used to expand capacity through automation, establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Knoxville, Tennessee, and hire additional staff. A portion will also support research and development of new sustainable membrane and separation technologies.

Craig Beckman, CEO of Aqua Membranes, expressed gratitude to the company's investors.

“We are deeply grateful to our new and existing investors – for their trust and belief in the important work we do every day for the future of clean water,” he said.

"This is an exciting time for our team," he added. "Fueled by significant revenue growth and this new investment, we're more committed than ever to driving reverse osmosis innovation and making clean water accessible for all."

The funding round highlights the growing interest from venture and strategic funds in technologies that advance sustainability. As global water challenges intensify, companies like Aqua Membranes are at the forefront of providing solutions that can make a real impact.
