Dr. Rectanus specializes in bioremediation and monitored natural attenuation (MNA) remedial strategies for CERCLA sites. Heather’s technical experience involves feasibility assessments for bioremediation and MNA remedies as well as the design, implementation, and optimization of innovative in situ remediation technologies to treat a broad suite of contaminants, including petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, and munitions constituents. She has worked on projects involving biosparging designs, biobarrier installations, MNA assessments, and DNAPL management strategies. To advance the state of the practice, Heather co-authored multiple research papers and guidance documents on natural attenuation processes for chlorinated solvent and munitions constituents in soils, groundwater, and management of DNAPL sites. Heather was co-chair for multiple conferences, including the International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds, the International Symposium on Bioremediation and Sustainable Environmental Technologies, and the Tenth International In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation Symposium.
