Dr. Vatankhah is an assistant professor at Florida International University. His expertise centers on the removal and destruction of refractory micropollutants through physico-chemical treatment processes applied across a diverse spectrum, including water and wastewater treatment, potable reuse, and the treatment of unconventional water resources. His current research is predominantly focused on the assessment and advancement of technologies tailored for the management of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including oxidation/reduction, sorption-based processes, and high-pressure membranes. Prior to his new role, he had been serving as a Research Fellow with the U.S. Department of Defense (Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) & Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP)) and also served as a Research Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.
