Dr. Simmer is a Research Scientist at the University of Iowa, where he has been working with Dr. Jerry Schnoor since 2016. He completed his MS, PhD, and Postdoctoral studies at the University of Iowa under Dr. Schnoor’s supervision. His current research is focused on bioremediation and phytoremediation of 1,4-dioxane-contaminated groundwater. Previously, he worked at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, monitoring contamination and harmful algal blooms in recreational water bodies. He also holds a master’s degree in Geography and GIS from the University of Iowa, with a thesis focused on predictive modeling of contamination in Iowa’s recreational lakes.
